Wushu team from Arunachal wins two bronze in Junior National Wushu Championship

ITANAGAR, Jan 3: The Arunachal Pradesh Wushu Team won two bronze medals in the recently concluded Junior National Wushu Championship held at Khuman Lampak Indoor Satdium, Imphal, Manipur from December 27 top 30 last.

Likha Tadh won a bronze medal in 52kg below category in man's Sanshou (Fight) while Krishan Chetia won another in 60kg category.

The 21 member Arunachalee team was led by its chief coach Premkumar Singh and manager Ganesh Das.

Hearing on defected MLAs fixed on Jan 30-31

ITANAGAR, Jan 03: The much awaited hearing for disqualification of defected NCP MLAs into INC filed by PPA leaders under the provision on 10th Schedule of the Anti Defection Law has finally been fixed on January 30 and 31 at Nokmey Namati Hall, Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Complex, Naharlagun, said PPA party president Nikh Kamin in a release today.

While welcoming the legal initiative, Kamin further informed that the Court of Speaker, after perusing all the submissions from both the parties, has finally served hearing notices to all concerned. The PPA president appealed to all concerned to cooperate with laws of the land and to keep the healthy democratic spirit of the Indian Constitution rolling.

Senior govt officials visits DEMWLS

ITANAGAR, Jan 3: The additional principal chief conservator of forests (APCCF) Ravindra Kumar and IGP central zone (Pasighat) Gaurima Bhatnagar today visited Daying Ering Memorial Wild Life Sanctuary (DEMWLS) and interacted with the officials of the sanctuary.

They strongly advocated for strengthening the protection of wild life in the sanctuary and boost up the morality of the forest officials. During their visit, they also witnessed footmarks of various animals such as wild buffalo, hock deer, sambhar, and wild elephant including rare species such as pangolin etc.

The visiting officials also found various birds including migratory species flocking in the island sanctuary. They were accompanied by Mebo ADC, DEMWLS DFO Tashi Mize and other forest officials.

While appreciating both Kumar and Gupta, the DFO said that such visit of higher officials would boost up the morality of the protectors of the sanctuary and will also encourage community wildlife conservation.

Training cum vaccination prog

ROING, Jan 03: A one-day training cum method demonstration programme on Vaccination of poultry birds against Ranikhet disease was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lower Dibang Valley at Midland area of Roing. Vanaraja Chicks purchased from Govt. Hatchery, under department of Animal Husbandry and Vety. Tinsukia were vaccinated against Ranikhet disease with F1 vaccine.

Attending the programme Dr. T J Ramesha, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Lower Dibang Valley briefed the farmers about KVK mandated activities and achievements made in rearing of vanaraja breed by farmers from various operational villages.

Dr. Dipankar Hazarika, SMS (Animal Science) demonstrated vaccination of chicks against Ranikhet. He also briefed the farmer's about the importance of rearing dual purpose poultry breed in Backyard farming and care and management practices for poultry farming. The programme was conducted under the concept of learning by doing and participated farm women showed keen interest in maintaining this high yielding dual purpose breed. The programme was conducted under the financial support from ATMA, Lower Dibang Valley, according to an official release.

Farmers' Gaon Challo prog

DAPORIJO, Jan 03: All Upper Subansiri District Farmers' Society has organized a one-day Gaon Challo programme at Airfield here yesterday. The programme was organized in order to bring awareness among the farmers on the important of agriculture and horticulture and to impart them about the knowledge of modern technology being used in farming. Many farmers from different villages in the district participated in this Gaon Challo Programme.

Speaking on the occasion, local MLA Tapen Siga urged the farmers to go the villages and adopt modern technology and continue their farming to boost rural economy by producing and marketing surplus food.

Successful farmers from the district were also felicitated as a token of appreciation for their contribution in farming sector.

Resource persons from Horticulture department delivered lecture on the need of promoting agriculture and horticulture in the district.

Social service at Koloriang

ITANAGAR, Jan 3: In a welcome change in the scenario of Koloriang which is plagued by incidents of violence and disturbance, the Kapa Ajin Welfare Society in collaboration with the Kurung Kumey district administration organized a mass social service at Koloriang township today.

The district administration while appreciating the efforts of the youth emphasized on keeping the township area clean. Officers and official of DA, HoDs, students of various schools and shopkeepers participated in the social service enthusiastically.

While on one side, the youths and students painted a pleasant picture of cleaning the township area hand in hand, on the other side, some of the departments demonstrated a complete lack of responsibility towards their duties.

The DA in a surprise checking found the offices of as many as eight departments closed during office hours.

The departments; RWD, Veterinary, Textile & handicrafts, UD & H, DRDA, Labour & Employment, ICDS and Fisheries have been issued Show Cause Notice to reply within seven days. While directing all the HoDs to be stationed in their respective offices during office hours, the DA also asked the departments to ensure that the office decorum is maintained by the office staff.

Later, the DA distributed immediate relief to the victims of fire accident that occurred at Pakpu village on December 27 last. (DIPRO)

AEKSU raises teachers' shortage issue

ITANAGAR, Jan 03: All East Kameng Students Union (AEKSU) has raised teachers' shortage issue with district administration claiming that since 2001 to 2013 at least 90 teachers have been transferred from the district without any reliever.

AEKSU claimed that non-posting of relievers against transferred teachers had resulted teacher's shortage among government schools such as Govt higher secondary school Pakke-Kessang, Secondary schools Darlong, Bameng and Lamdung are facing acute shortage of teaching staff. The union also stated that government higher secondary school Chayang Tajo, Bazarline Seppa and other higher secondary schools have been running without vice-principal.

It sought the district administration to resolve the teachers' crisis within short span to bring quality education in the mentioned schools. The union also informed that staffs of Eklavya Model Residential School Bana which established in 2008 are facing irregular salaries. The school is funded by department of social welfare and tribal affairs government of India. The union informed the district administration that school is ceased to take new admission since first batch considering the non-release of fund to the school.

Basar to function as B&D registrar

ITANAGAR, Jan 3: In accordance with Govt notification, Chief Municipal Executive Officer, Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) Bokar Basar will function as the Registrar of Birth & Death (B &D) under the jurisdiction of Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC), Naharlagun till further order, according to an official release.

Citizen rally against killing of innocent civilians

ITANAGAR, Jan 03: A mass peace rally was held today at Khonsa town under the aegis of various organizations. The members of All Tirap District Students Union (ATDSU), Nocte Students Union (NSU) women organizations, NGOs, chiefs, gaon burahs, churches leaders, PRI leaders and ordinary citizen actively participated in the rally.

All the leaders who spoke on the occasion decried and vehemently condemned the killing of 2 civilians at Hoalam village on 2nd January in a cross fire between NSCN-IM and security forces.

They appealed to the security forces and UG groups not to engage in gun battle inside residential areas in the future to avoid civilian casualties. The leaders also asked NSCN cadres to stop using the villagers as human shields during encounter.

Earlier, peaceful rally was taken out in Khonsa Township starting from Bazar and culminating at DC office premises. The participants were holding banners and placards written "don't kill us we are not militants" and "Tirap people condemns 2 civilian killing".

A memorandum addressed to the deputy commissioner, was submitted by ZPC Chawang Lowang on behalf of the people of Tirap and Longding appealing for immediate judicial inquiry and release of compensation at the earliest.

Governor for expediting railway project

ITANAGAR, Jan 03: Northeast Frontier Railway General Manager (Construction) Rajesh Kumar Singh called on the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma at Raj Bhawan here today. Senior NF railway officials, Chief Administrative Officer Subodh Kulsheshtra, Chief Electrical Officer Ashok Kumar and Chief Engineer S C Rajak accompanied the General Manager.

Interacting with the Railway officials, Governor, who has been closely monitoring the development projects in the State emphasized on expediting the Naharlagun-Harmuti railway project. He advised them to put their heads and shoulders together and get it implemented by the Statehood Day.

Governor pointed that it will be a major achievement for the Indian Railways and Arunachal Pradesh; a gift for the people of the State on the special occasion of Statehood Day.

At the same time Governor cautioned them not to compromise the safety parameters.

Governor also emphasized on expediting the Bogibeel Bridge project, which he said will immensely benefit the people of Arunachal Pradesh, especially people from eastern part of the State and North East region as a whole. He added that once completed, Bogibeel Bridge will change the entire communication scenario of the region.

Earlier, NF Railway GM briefed the Governor on the Naharlagun-Harmuti railway project and other railway projects in Northeast region. AACS team calls on Anna Hazare

ITANAGAR, Jan 03: A team of Arunachal Anti-Corruption Sena (AACS) led by its President Serpi Flago called on veteran social activist Anna Hazare at Ralengan Sidhi (Maharashtra) on Thursday and informed him of the prevailing corruption in Arunachal Pradesh.

During two-hour long discussion, AACS members armed with RTI documents informed Hazare about the alleged rampant corruption in various sectors like "Shiksha Gotala, PDS scam, Hydro Power Project, Multi-Crore scam in Panchayati Raj and MGNREGA".

The AACS in a release today informed that the renowned social activist Hazare called upon the Sena activists not to compromise and fight against corruption without fear and iron hand. He further emphasized on mass awareness campaign in every level involving youth and general public for good governance. Hazare also assured full co-operation to the organization in its fight against corruption.

Wishing best to the people of Arunachal Pradesh on the occasion of new year, Hazare stressed on the need of early implementation of Lokayukta Act in the state. The veteran social activist also wished to visit Arunachal in future.

Meanwhile, the AACS further said that Anna condemned China's claim over Arunachal Pradesh. "Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part and parcel of India. No any powerful country of the world can snatch an inch of Arunachal," the AACS quoted the social activist as saying.

Capital DC holds meeting on R Day celebration

ITANAGAR, Jan 03: Keeping an eye on the forthcoming Republic Day, the Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goel held a meeting at his official chamber with various departments to chalk out the programme for grand celebration of the Day on 26th January next at Indira Gandhi Park, here.

Briefing the departments concerned on their duties and responsibilities, the DC asked all to work with dedication and utmost sincerity so that the Republic Day could be celebrated in true spirit without any lacunae. Informing that the parade rehearsal would begin from January 13 next and the final rehearsal would be held on January 24 next, the DC urged all the departments to ensure that all the arrangements are finished by January 23. He directed the SP Capital to deploy adequate security personnel at I.G Park. He also briefed the departments of PWD, PHE and Power regarding the construction works, sitting arrangements, provision of drinking water, electricity etc. He further asked the CMO Naharalagun to arrange for ambulance with a doctor along with staff at the venue on the day of the final rehearsal as well as the Republic Day. He asked the DDSE Itanagar to ensure that all schools participate in the Prabhat Pheri on the day and to liaise with the Deptt of Art and Culture for arrangement of student cultural troupes. Aji-Lhamu dance team all set to represent Arunachal in R-day

TAWANG, Jan 03: Tawang Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Dev along with SP Devender Arya, ADC Dr Tariq Thomas and ADAC Tawang Kesang Dhondup met the 11-member Aji-Lhamu dance team who will be representing the Arunachal Tableau in the Republic Day celebration 2014 in New Delhi.

Congratulating the members, the DC Tawang advised them to be well-disciplined and well-prepared for the event. "It's a great honour and pride for the district to be selected to represent our state at the Republic Day celebration. I congratulate each and every member for being the lucky few ones who would have this opportunity to represent the state at New Delhi," said Dev.

SP Devender Arya urged the members to be very obedient and disciplined as they shall be the representative of the state at the Republic Day celebration in New Delhi.

The excitement and glee of the members was palpable during the meeting with the DC Tawang. The glow shown on the young jubilant faces of the girls and boys could easily dazzle off the winter snow.

It is to be mentioned here that Arunachal Pradesh has been selected for the Tableau presentation at the national level after a gap of five years. Prepared by the arts and exhibition unit of the Department of Information & Public Relations, the theme of this year's state tableau is 'Aji Lhamu Dance' of the Monpas and Sherdukpens representing the districts of West Kameng and Tawang.

Arunachal Pradesh is one of the 13 presentations (12 states of India and one from Ministry of Defence) selected for the tableau presentation. Siram inspects Daying Ering Memorial HS School

PASIGHAT, Jan 03: Education Minister Bosiram Siram accompanied by the PMC Chief Councilor Denong Tamuk, SSA District Coordinator Kalom Ering and PD (RMSA) T Jamoh today inspected the Daying Ering Memorial Higher Secondary School (DEMHSS) and took stock of development and interacted with the students and teachers.

The minister while inspecting the ongoing construction of Administrative Block building of DEMHSS, expressed satisfaction over the development and stressed on expeditious completion of it. The minister gave spot approval of extension of the present school auditorium which would help the school authority to accommodate more students in regular morning assembly during monsoon. Siram while visiting classrooms advised the students to be disciplined, punctual and sincere in studies and to gain knowledge for brighter tomorrow. They should involve in extra curricular activities to keep them and personality development, the minister advised.

Taking privilege, the school Principal P Rukbo and Vice-Principal Aroti Padung updated the minister about the progress and difficulties being faced by them and further informed that posting of two Senior teachers for Chemistry and Social Studies and one Junior teacher for Hindi would help the school authority to provide better education facilities to the learners. CCLAPF demands revocation of eviction order

ITANAGAR, Jan 03: The Capital Complex Land Affected Peoples' Forum (CCLAPF) in a representation to the Deputy Commissioner Capital Complex requested him to immediately revoked the eviction order dated December 23, 2013 reportedly issued by the Chief Estate Officer cum ADM Capital Complex against the structure of one Likha Taram at Senki Park Itanagar, till such time the government comes out with some logical and permanent solution to the vexed land occupation and allotment imbroglio of the Capital Complex.

Earlier on December 27 last, the CCLAPF team also called on the CEO cum ADM on the same issue and opposed eviction order.

In its representation, CCLAPF pointed out that instead of conducting the eviction processes in pick and choose manner, it would be more appropriate if the capital administration resumes the uniform verification drive for all the sectors and colonies in the Capital Complex immediately, so that a true picture of the whole scenario can be gauged properly and thus the government can accordingly take some appropriate decision in respect of this issue in its entirety.

Informing that they are in constant touch with the government constituted committee, in an attempt to hammer out an acceptable, pragmatic and a permanent solution to this vexed issue, the Forum requested the capital administration not to derail the whole process now by initiating any eviction drive at this crucial juncture.

While requesting the administration for restraint during the pendency of the case at the government level, the organization, however, said that they shall not remain mute spectators to any unilateral and arbitrary move by the capital administration, and that it shall be opposed tooth and nail.

12-hr Kurung Kumey district bandh announced

ITANAGAR, Jan 03: Protesting against the district administration for alleged failure to meet their demands; the All Kurung Kumey District Students' Union (AKKDSU) has declared 12 hours district bandh on 6th January next. AKKDSU demanded for immediate suspension of three police personnel and other staffs who failed to perform their duties during electoral roll burning incident on 9th December at Hawa Camp. It also demanded suspension of Kurung Kumey District SP and district electoral officer (DC) for alleged failure to deploy enough police personnel and staffs in spite of knowing the hostile atmosphere post electoral summary revision in the district. The district apex students union also demanded the authority to conduct trial on electoral burning incident case in fast track court in which Parliamentary Secretary Tax & Excise and others were allegedly involved.

Failing to fulfill its demands would invite second phase of agitation, the Union said. Earlier AKKDSU had served ultimatum to the district administration demanding for early re-addressal of their demands.

Further it strongly opposed the excess enrollment of electoral roll during the summary revision in the district adding that the union will not tolerate enrollment of non-APST without valid reason. It also strongly opposed the issue of temporary inner line pass (ILP) during the hearing process and requested the authority to halt the ILP till the completion of the hearing process.

Indo-China troops jointly welcome 2014 in Arunachal

Kolkata, Jan 03: In a rare bonhomie, Indian and Chinese soldiers celebrated the New Year together in Arunachal Pradesh's Bumla Pass, from where the Chinese army had launched its aggression in the 1962 Sino-India war, officials said here Friday.

During a meeting organised by the Eastern Command's Tawang Garrison under Gajraj Corps at Bumla, at an elevation of around 16,000 feet, troops from the two neighbouring countries jointly celebrated the arrival of 2014 on Wednesday.

Soldiers from both the sides greeted each other and their families with friendly handshakes, exchange of pleasantries and sweets on the occasion.

Army officials recalled that it was for the first time that uniformed personnel from both sides got together at Bumla amidst a cordial atmosphere on such an occasion.

Bumla, located a few kilometres away from Tawang on the Indo-China border, is the last Army post in Tawang district.

Women officers from both sides also participated in the joint celebration. The first time initiative was lauded by all present with both sides pledging to continue such initiatives in future as well.

The delegations re-affirmed their commitment in maintaining peace and tranquility along the Sino-Indian borders as per Border Peace and Tranquility Agreement (BPTA) and the recently concluded Border Defence Cooperation Agreement (BDCA).

"Such meetings help to further enhance communication and cooperation between the border troops in order to promote friendly ties between the two countries," an Army official said. PTI

Time to review our own time table

Dear Editor,

The recent proposal of moving ahead 1hour from Indian Standard time (IST) by Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi, hold good for the local condition of North East. I think it is the first thing that our leader should do before anything else. Our state Arunachal Pradesh is known as “The Land of Rising Sun” of the country. It means we are first to witness the sun rising and also first to witness sunset. Expert says there is approximately two hour difference of time in sun rise of the East and West India.

Even Bangladesh has advanced 90 minutes according to their local condition. So, why can’t we do? We are running behind our own local time. The official timing is from 10:00 am to 5:00pm but we see only few lonely souls after 4:00pm at any govt. office. Even after 66 year of independence we are running far-far behind the rest of the country in terms of every aspect of development. If we want to match along with them we must run ahead of their time. For that we should set out our own time zone. Sunlight is the source of various energy of mother earth, we must use this source as much as possible. The whole North East States should come forward together for a single local time.

Tragedy at Tirap

The report of the killing of two civilians during cross-firing between NSCN-IM and security force at Tirap is deeply worrying. Yesterday morning two members of a family were killed while another sustained grievous injury when they got caught in the cross firing between Assam Rifles and NSCN (IM) at remote Hoalam village in Tirap district. Those killed were identified as Panjam Wangsu (52) and his son Ranthak Wangsu (15). Nyelai Wangsu, mother of deceased Ranthak, suffered grievous injury. There was report that two cadre of NSCN (IM) also died on the spot in the fierce encounter, while another cadre was arrested by 1 AR during the operation.

The security forces will justify their action claiming that encounter lead to death of two hardcore militant and arrest of 1. However, they could have easily avoided such action in the village area. The security forces had prior intelligence report about presence of ultras in village area. They should have taken precaution to avoid civilian casualties. The citizens support their initiative of going tough against ultras, but, if ordinary citizens continue to get caught between them and UG groups, the support may wean away in future. It is a shame that those militants who claim to be fighting for cause of poor citizen uses them as human shield to save their own life. The government of India and Arunachal govt. needs to come out with long term strategy to tackle militancy in Tirap, Changlang and Longding. It is time for some serious action.
